I bought a Canon dslr last week from an ebay like site. The camera was in mint condition with all the accessories but the software cd was missing , the ex-owner couldn’t find it.
Later when I tried to install the EOS utility I ran into this issue.
For some reason Canon provides this software only as update so if you don’t have the CD you can’t install it.
I looked for a solution and thought it would be a good idea to share it. This works for Windows. I tested it on Windows 8 and 8.1.
So in order to install the EOS utility you need to add some keys in your registry that will trick Canon utility installer to think that you have a older version of the software installed.
Open Regedit (open run , write: regedit , press enter)
Go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – expand SOFTWARE , Right click Wow6432Node and click New – Key .
Name the new created key Canon . Right click the Canon key and create another new key under it, name this one EOS Utility
Now you can install the EOS Utility software without the CD.
